THE SPIRIT OF BACKWARDNESS IS HINDERING YOUR NEW SEASON # 2

THE INABILITY TO LET GO OF PAST SEASONS

Isaiah 43:18–19

"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing..."

  • One of the greatest enemies of a new season is an unhealthy attachment to an old season.

  • Some people are still emotionally imprisoned by yesterday's disappointments, yesterday's victories, yesterday's relationships, and yesterday's experiences.

They keep comparing today's opportunities with yesterday's experiences.

But hear this: What God used yesterday may not be the instrument He intends to use tomorrow.

  • Even yesterday's testimony must never become an idol that prevents you from recognizing today's instruction.

Abraham had to leave his father's house. Moses had to leave the palace. Peter had to leave his fishing nets.

Every divine transition demands a willingness to respond to God's direction.

Do not allow yesterday's pain to become tomorrow's limitation.

Sometimes, moving forward requires you to release what is familiar so you can embrace what is divinely appointed.

  1. THE REPEATED CYCLE OF DISOBEDIENCE

   1 Samuel 15:22

"To obey is better than sacrifice..."

  • There are battles that do not require another prophecy; they require obedience to the last instruction God gave you.

Some believers constantly ask God for new directions while neglecting the instructions already revealed in His Word.

  • They want a new level of anointing but refuse to surrender their habits.

They desire greater influence but resist accountability.

They pray for open doors but ignore the principles of diligence, integrity, forgiveness, and discipline.

Understand this: A new instruction cannot become a substitute for an old instruction you have refused to obey.

Saul lost his kingdom because he considered partial obedience sufficient.

Do not confuse religious activity with spiritual obedience.

You can attend services, fast, pray, and quote scriptures while still resisting the very thing God is asking you to change.

  • Your next season requires more than emotional excitement. It requires a lifestyle of obedience.

Main Scriptures: Philippians 3:13–14; Isaiah 43:18–19; Hebrews 12:1–2; Deuteronomy 1:6–8.

  •   You cannot fully embrace what God is bringing into your future while remaining spiritually attached to everything He is calling you to leave behind.

  • There are seasons when the greatest battle in a believer's life is not the absence of God's promises but the inability to respond correctly to the demands of a new season.

  • Israel was delivered from Egypt in one night, but it took years for the Egyptian mentality to leave their hearts. Their location changed, but their thinking remained imprisoned.

This reveals a profound spiritual principle:

It is possible to leave a place physically but continue living under its influence mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

The Bible says:

“The LORD our God said to us at Horeb, “You have stayed long enough at this mountain.”    Deuteronomy‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God was essentially telling Israel, "Your present location has become too small for My next instruction."

There are believers who have spent too long at the same spiritual mountain—not because God has abandoned them, but because they have refused to respond to His instructions.

Let's examine seven marks that can hinder a believer from moving forward.
